JOB DESCRIPTION

ORGANISATION: Bodywhys: The Eating Disorders Association of Ireland

POSITION: Youth Development Officer

REPORTING TO: Youth Development Manager

ORGANISATION:

Bodywhys: The Eating Disorders Association of Ireland supports people
affected by eating disorders, including families and friends. We seek

JOB PURPOSE:

This key role within Bodywhys requires a dynamic, energetic, Youth
Development Officer to deliver educational talks and workshops in
schools and youth group settings. The successful candidate will have
excellent planning, implementation, and evaluation skills; experience
in the delivery of training/presentations/workshops and have a passion
for working in a youth focused position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1: DELIVERY OF YOUTH FOCUSED SUPPORT SERVICES

* Delivery of existing Bodywhys education programmes in schools and
youth groups nationwide.
* Make recommendations on the development of youth focused support
services.
* Assist in the development and evaluation of new education
programmes to promote positive body image and prevent eating
disorders.

2: COORDINATION OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMMES

* Support the Youth Development Team to undertake a needs analysis of
schools and youth groups.
* Make recommendations on the development of additional education
programmes for schools.
* Implementation of recommendations including the development and
delivery of a training programme to promote awareness of eating
disorders and body image in school and community settings.
* Support the Bodywhys Team in delivery of programmes to up-skill a
broad range of people working with young people. Groups targeted will
include, but are not limited to, teachers, youth workers, mental
health practitioners and primary care staff.
* Monitoring and evaluation of education and training programmes.

3: OTHER ACTIVITIES

* Maintain effective working relationships with relevant agencies and
working groups.
* Working flexibly within a team environment to assist in the
delivery of Bodywhys’ goals and fulfilling its mission.
* Carrying out other duties as may reasonably be requested by the
Chief Executive Officer.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

_Essential_

* Educated to third level standard or equivalent professional
experience

EXPERIENCE

_Essential_

* Experience of working on youth related issues.
* Experience in the development and delivery of youth specific
training programmes.
* Experience working with a range of professionals from broad
backgrounds including health, education, youth and welfare.

_Desirable_

* Knowledge of eating disorders.
* Knowledge of mental health issues.

RELEVANT SKILLS AND APTITUDES

_Essential_

* Well developed verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent presentation skills and an ability to develop and
deliver material for a variety of audiences.
* Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and work with
flexibility, initiative and imagination.
* Excellent project management, facilitation and people skills.
* Commitment to the principle of empowerment of people affected by
mental health issues.

_Desirable_

* Demonstrable ability to encourage participation by others in a
project.

TRANSPORT

* Full driving licence

BASED IN: This is a hybrid working opportunity. The successful
candidate will work from home and will be based 1 day per month in the
office (Bodywhys Offices, St John of God Hospital, Stillorgan, Co
Dublin) for team meetings. This position also will involve meetings
out of the office and travel as required.

HOURS OF WORK: This position will involve working a **Apply on the
website** hour week (Mon – Fri between 9am – 5pm). However, work
outside these hours may be necessary i.e. evenings and weekends. A
time off in lieu system will operate on these occasions.

SALARY: circa *K
